Dubai's climate is unusually hard on pools — constant sun exposure, high chlorine demand, and heavy year-round use mean plaster, tiling, and equipment wear out faster here than in most markets. Most villa pools need meaningful renovation work within 10-15 years, sometimes sooner if the original finish was lower grade.

💡 Combining pool works with a wider renovation?

Pool renovation is often sequenced alongside landscaping and exterior works. Our Renovation Cost Calculator and Pool Renovation service page cover both standalone and combined projects.

Three typical project scopes

Basic refresh (AED 25,000 – 45,000)

Plaster resurfacing plus a waterline tile refresh and a standard equipment check or minor repair. Suitable when the pool shell and plumbing are structurally sound and the issue is mainly cosmetic — fading, staining, or a dated tile line.

Mid-range renovation (AED 45,000 – 120,000)

Full resurfacing (often upgraded to pebble/quartz), full waterline retiling, and an equipment refresh including pump and filter replacement. This is the most common scope we see for villa pools reaching 10-15 years old.

Full renovation (AED 120,000 – 280,000+)

Complete teardown and reshell where needed, full pool tiling, premium equipment with automation and a heat pump, and deck/coping resurfacing. This scope typically applies when the pool shell itself has structural issues or the homeowner is upgrading the entire exterior alongside the pool — often paired with our Landscaping service.

⚠ Undersized equipment is a common false economy

A cheaper quote sometimes specifies a pump or filter sized for a smaller pool than you actually have, or skips a proper equipment sizing calculation altogether. Undersized equipment works harder, wears out faster, and costs more in energy and early replacement — confirm equipment is sized to your actual pool volume, not a generic package.

Our own Meadows villa renovation included a full pool and exterior renovation — the before-and-after shows what a mid-to-full range pool transformation looks like alongside a wider exterior refresh.

How long does pool renovation take?

A basic refresh (resurfacing and waterline retiling) typically takes 1 to 2 weeks, most of which is drain-down and plaster curing time rather than active labour. A mid-range renovation with equipment replacement usually runs 3 to 5 weeks. A full renovation involving structural work, complete retiling, and deck resurfacing can take 6 to 10 weeks. Plaster curing time in particular can't be rushed — refilling a pool too early is one of the most common causes of early finish failure.

Saltwater vs traditional chlorine

A growing number of Dubai villa owners convert to saltwater chlorination during a pool renovation. It reduces the need to manually dose chlorine and tends to be gentler on skin and eyes, though it isn't "chlorine-free" — the system generates chlorine from salt automatically. It's worth discussing during equipment renovation rather than as an afterthought, since the conversion is far easier to do alongside other equipment work than as a standalone project later.
